For the past year, The Nocturnal Cult has been about curating beautiful, dark pieces for your home. But today, I’m sharing something much closer to my heart. For the first time, I am moving from curator to creator. I am launching my very first handmade product, and I couldn't be prouder to finally show it to you.
Why I Started Creating
My own shadow work journey began because I wanted to understand myself deeper. I went looking for "tools" to help ease me into the process, something to make the heavy work feel a little lighter, but I struggled to find anything affordable.
I remember seeing beautiful crystal-infused candles on Instagram; I loved the idea, but the price tags were just out of reach. That’s when I decided: if I can’t find a high-quality, affordable ritual candle, I’ll learn how to make one myself. After a lot of trial and error, I’ve created exactly what I was looking for.
The Shadow Work Ritual Candle
I wanted to offer a luxury ritual experience at a price that actually makes sense (£14.44). These aren't made in a giant factory; they are hand-poured by me, in my kitchen, with the utmost care.
The Ingredients
I spent time making sure the quality was right. I used a blend of 80% Nature C3 soy wax and 20% coconut wax for a clean, sustainable burn. For the scent and energy, I chose:
- Pomegranate Noir: A deep, mysterious fragrance that feels sophisticated and grounding.
- Patchouli Essential Oil: Known for its earthy properties, it's the perfect oil for grounding your energy while you dive into the subconscious.
- Snowflake Obsidian: Each candle includes a few pieces of snowflake obsidian. This stone is known for bringing balance during times of change and helping to draw hidden patterns to the surface—the very essence of shadow work.
The "Beautiful" Mistake
I’ll be honest, I wanted these candles to be a solid, deep black. However, because of the natural wax blend I chose, they came out with a unique "frosted" look. At first, I was worried, but then I realized: it only made them more beautiful. They look like frozen shadows. They aren’t "factory perfect," but they are real, handmade, and full of intention.

To go alongside the candle, I’ve created The Nocturnal Shadow Work Journal (£4.44). This digital guide is designed to take the fear out of the process. It explains what shadow work actually is, offers tips on how to begin, and is filled with prompts to help you start your journey.
